What is it ?

  • Kinesiology draws on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and can evaluate body function through muscle monitoring and the muscle/meridian relationship. It can also establish connections between body system imbalances, put them in order of priority and determine the most effective treatment.

  • Kinesiology also draws on and integrates with other natural healing modalities such as  Bowen , Acupuncture, Homeopathy, etc  and can be used as an effective adjunct to any therapy

  • Kinesiology is non invasive and gentle to the body

Meet Narelle and Max with Helen . . . an example of one type of muscle testing using the owner

Where did it come from ?

In the early 1960's, a chiropractor Dr. George Goodheart made the breakthrough that muscle monitoring, not only could assess muscle and joint  integrity but  could also access the functional status of other physiological systems in the body.

As research progressed, the techniques to correct functional imbalances in the structural, chemical, mental and energetic systems of the body grew to include the meridian system (for energetic flow), Bennett Reflex Points (for vascular function) and Chapman Reflex Points (for lymphatic function). Today almost four decades on, 'Kinesiology' serves as an umbrella-term for a rapidly expanding suite of specialised Kinesiology modalities (NOT is one of them) and has recognised training and qualifications worldwide (www.kinesiology.net). The Australian Kinesiology Association is the professional association for qualified Australian Kinesiologists. www.akakinesiology.org.au

Neural Organisation Technique

  What is it ?

NOT was developed by Dr Carl Ferreri and is based on principles of Applied Kinesiology, Cranial Technique, Sacro Cranial Technique, Chiropractic and Acupuncture and from observations of how the body’s survival systems of feeding, movement, reproduction and the immune system are organised.  Dr Ferreri discovered that when the neurology of these survival systems becomes disorganised then this leads to problems with the body’s structure and function. This can involve skeletal pain and reduced function, gait and movement problems, digestive disorders, jaw and pelvic misalignment, cranial problems.

A knowledge of the energy meridian system , neural systems and overall anatomy is integral to Kinesiology and NOT

The principles of NOT

  • Neural organisation is fundamental to our survival and normal functioning.

  • The body is a totally integrated biological entity in which everything has a purpose and is dependent on everything else. There is a neural reflex or automatic neurological system for every physical movement, every position and every function.

  • However, the neurological systems in the body can be disturbed by physical or emotional trauma or injury and by chemical imbalance through diet and toxicity.

  • Neural Organisation Technique (NOT) is a Kinesiology based procedure which organises/reorganises the neurological systems to function in the way they were designed for good health.

Treatment and how might my animal benefit ?

The use of Kinesiology in animal healthcare is relatively new in Australia. Some chiropractors have undertaken training in Applied Kinesiology and adapted to their practice. There are also some veterinarians that have studied NAET (a form of kinesiology that is specifically used in allergy desensitisation) and use in their clinics.

In working with animals you can’t actually monitor an animal’s muscle; therefore you do this via a surrogate (a person). The surrogate makes contact with the animal, or via animal fur/hair and the energetic connection is established that allows for the muscle testing to be performed. Through muscle testing and touch locating body points on the animal, imbalances can be determined and appropriate corrections identified.

A kinesiology balance can take between 15 minutes to an hour and can be used in conjunction with other natural therapies and conventional medicine. Improvement may be evident after a first treatment or second, depending on the presenting problems and range of other modalities being used

Examples of problems that can be assisted include:

  • muscular-skeletal pain ,

  • gait and movement problems,

  • allergies and food intolerances,

  • emotional/behavioural anxieties,

  • hormonal problems,

  • energy blockages,

  • digestive problems,

  • lymphatic drainage, toxicity and problems associated with a low immune system.

The techniques used in animal kinesiology have their roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine and both applied and holistic kinesiology and include:

  • Acupressure and acu-point work

  • Meridian balancing

  • Attention to lymphatic, neurovascular reflex, spinal reflex , trigger and body points

  • Attention to structural and muscle integrity  around the sacrum, jaw and  cranium

  • Balancing muscle, fascia & meridian reactivity patterns

Stimulating acupoints using finger pressure as well as a laser pointer or even a crystal terminator are part of the repertoire of techniques used in Kinesiology and NOT

Kinesiology with

 Animal Equilibrium

Helen trained with the College of Complementary Medicine (Syd) and has also undertaken accredited AKA training in Neural Organisation Technique and is a qualified Kinesiologist, RKP.

Helen has spent time studying and learning from leaders in NOT and their work with horses as there is no “dedicated/specialised” courses on the application of this modality with animals.

She has adapted the techniques she has learnt to both dogs and horses. For further information on the use and success of kinesiology see Testimonials section.

Contra-indications /combining therapies

It is suggested that the owner not combine other physical therapies such as chiropractics, physiotherapy, massage and osteopathy with Bowen Therapy or NOT Kinesiology on the same day as a consultation with Animal Equilibrium.  It is recommended that there be some days between them.

Animal Equilibrium encourages owners to discuss goals for treatment with your vet and/ any other animal healthcare provider and/or behavioural trainer. Animal Equilibrium works in a complementary manner with other providers and it is therefore important that all aspects of an animals treatment /care is known to ensure that a well informed complementary remedial or preventative wellness program can be designed
